Your Impact on BN3TH’s Carbon Offsetting

One of BN3TH’s values is ‘Say what you mean’, and when we say we’re transparent about our impact on the environment and doing everything we can to minimize it – we mean it! We strive to innovate every day, constantly looking for better ways to manufacture our products and ensure we take every possible action towards having a lesser impact on the environment through our use of materials and production methods.

Our promise to you is to keep innovating every way we can. We love this planet for its beautiful landscapes that allows us to ride, slide, jump, run and hang in. The world is a giant playground that should be enjoyed by all, for generations to come.

As of July 2021:

Let’s get back to basics.

What is carbon dioxide and why does it matter?

“Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas: a gas that absorbs and radiates heat. Warmed by sunlight, Earth’s land and ocean surfaces continuously radiate thermal infrared energy (heat). Unlike oxygen or nitrogen (which make up most of our atmosphere), greenhouse gases absorb that heat and release it gradually over time, like bricks in a fireplace after the fire goes out. Without this natural greenhouse effect, Earth’s average annual temperature would be below freezing instead of close to 60°F. But increases in greenhouse gases have tipped the Earth's energy budget out of balance, trapping additional heat and raising Earth's average temperature.” - Climate.gov:

Even inside our homes, CO2 makes a huge difference. As levels rise it can lead to restlessness, drowsiness, increased heart rates and blood pressure, as well as sweating and headaches. While fresh air coming into your home will help you get a better night’s sleep and help you feel better, if it’s rising outside too, it’s a much larger problem.

What is a Carbon Footprint?

A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by our actions.

The average carbon footprint for a person in the United States is 16 tons, one of the highest rates in the world. Globally, the average is closer to 4 tons. To have the best chance of avoiding a 2 rise in global temperatures, the average global carbon footprint per year needs to drop under 2 tons by 2050.” – Nature.org

All the products and energy everyone uses has an associated emission. For example, a new pair of denim jeans has emissions from growing the cotton, the fertilizer used, and even the carbon lost from the soil. Then there’s the emissions from energy used to manufacture and ship the finished products, then washing and drying after you’ve worn them.

What is a Carbon Offset?

Carbon offsets are a way of helping projects around the world that reduce greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions by either capturing and destroying a greenhouse gas that would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere, by producing energy using a clean, renewable resource that eliminates the need to produce that same energy from fossil fuels, or by capturing and storing greenhouse gases to prevent their release into the atmosphere.

Now you can see exactly how much carbon has been offset through the renewable projects that actively help the planet, including the reforestation of degraded land in India and at the Mount Sandy Conservation area in Australia, and the social impact of bringing clean drinking water to a village in Cambodia. The Hydrologic project in Cambodia provides access to clean, safe drinking water to more than 1 million Cambodian families by locally produced ceramic water purifiers.

The Hydro plant at a glance:

  • 300,000+ filters distributed per year reaching two million Cambodians.
  • Domestic production stimulates local economies.
  • Protects the environment by providing an alternative to fire or gas boiling methods for water treatment.

We already use sustainable fabrics like Tencel™ Modal and employ state-of-the-art manufacturing practices to significantly reduce our CO2 emissions. It’s going to take everyone to help get this planet back on track. We’re not perfect, but we’re trying and this is where carbon offsets come in.

Rather than simply buying carbon credits which are tradable assets and is an easier way for businesses to appear to be doing something positive without actually making a change, (aka “green washing”) we’re tackling these emissions head-on by investing in carbon offset projects such as renewable energy, forest conservation and energy efficiency. These projects prevent future carbon emissions and remove existing CO2 from the atmosphere.

By working with SimpliZero, BN3TH has been able to put a percentage of the proceeds from online sales of their sustainably-soft Tencel Modal products toward carefully selected projects around the world.

You can view the live tracker here and look for the ‘Carbon Neutral Product’ icon throughout the BN3TH product pages to see how your purchase is making a real difference.

Here’s a full list of the carbon offsetting projects your purchase on BN3TH.com helps:

  • Clean drinking water – Cambodia
  • Degraded land reforestation – India
  • Mount Sandy conservation – Australia

It’s up to all of us to make a small change. We strive to innovate every day, constantly looking for better ways to manufacture our products and ensure we take every possible action towards having a lesser impact on the environment through our use of materials and methods.

Our promise to you is to keep innovating every way we can. We love this planet for its beautiful landscapes that allows us to ride, slide, jump, run and hang in – let’s do our part to make sure we leave this place better than we found it.
